Havens Winery Chardonnay, Napa Valley 2016 NEW

Havens Winery Chardonnay, Napa Valley 2016 NEW

The Vineyards and Winemaking: The 2016 Chardonnay is a blend of two vineyards within the Napa Valley, with the bulk of the grapes coming from vineyards in the Oak Knoll District just north of the City of Napa. The vineyards are close to the intersection of Oak Knoll Avenue and Highway 29 and the soils in this area have a deep gravel base that is overlaid with a loamy topsoil of the Bale variety. This area is the best for growing Chardonnay since it is near the southern end of Napa Valley and breezes from San Francisco Bay keep the area cool. The soil in this area contributes the exotic aromatics and rich palate of this wine, in keeping with the style that has come to define Havens Chardonnay. The Chardonnay that did so well in the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 came from this area.

Harvest Date: September 8, 2016

Alcohol: 14.5% pH: 3.50 Acidity: 5.78 g/L Barrel Aging: 12 Months in French Oak

Blend: 100% Chardonnay Appellation: Napa Valley

Tasting Notes: Aromas of apples, pears, melons, and toasty oak with hints of vanilla place this wine in a class of its own. The rich, lushfruit flavors are balanced by mouth-watering acidity, and the complex tannins from barrel fermentation lead to a very satisfying finish.
