Havens Winery Syrah, Napa Valley 2016 NEW

The Vineyard and Winemaking: The grapes for our Havens 2016 Syrah Napa Valley are selected from several of the best vineyards in Napa’s eastern hills. The rocky, well drained soils, mild microclimate, and patience and attentiveness of our growers allow the grapes to achieve an intensity that is truly unique. The grapes were picked and crushed with the utmost care; following fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was transferred to a mix of French and American Oak barrels to allow its tannins to mellow while enhancing the wine’s natural spice and complexity.

Harvest Report: Although bud break in Napa Valley was early this year, it’s been a cooler season. We didn’t get the normal high heat in July and August, which provided for a longer hang time for the grapes. The grapes ripened uniformly and, while yields are a bit lower than normal, the flavors are great. The harvest has been smooth and progressed from varietal to varietal.

Harvest Date: October 6th, 2016

Alcohol: 14.5%

pH: 3.66

Barrel: 10 Months in French & American Oak

Apellation: Napa Valley

Tasting Notes: “Deep garnet-purple, the 2016 Syrah is scented of blackberry pie and crème de cassis with hints of licorice, tar and chocolate box. Full, concentrated and plush in the mouth with just enough acid and tons of savory layers, it finishes long and perfumed.”
